REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a gentle healing art which dates back to ancient Egyptians, Chinese and Native Americans.

It is a unique method of massage used to relieve tension and treat illness by applying thumb and finger pressure to the specific reflex area on the feet which, based on the theory, are an mirror image of all the organs, glands and parts of the human body.

It is a non-invasive therapy that should be applied sensitively and gently.

When there is a problem within the body part, organ or gland, the corresponding reflex area in the feet will reveal sensitivity when pressure is applied. By working through these reflex areas and applying a deep alternating pressure, a stimulating effect occurs to promote your body to heal itself and reduce the symptoms, as well as reduce the sensitivity of the reflex area itself.

WHAT CAN IT TREAT?

At the times of not feeling so good, Reflexology has much to offer since it relieves discomfort from aches, pains and cramps by getting to the very root of the issue.

Reflexology can be a great treatment in relieving all the stress related disorders in the modern world and can be used for all age groups. By boosting sluggish circulation it is useful to treat anxiety, back pain, migraine, poor circulation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), respiratory problems, asthma, headaches and bladder problems.

Therapist may massage your big toe and ankle to calm your endocrine and reproductive system, helping relieve PMS or menopausal symptoms and period pain.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE TREATMENT?

Client remains fully clothed at all times except socks and shoes, but may wish to wear lose trousers or jeans so they could be folded up as the therapist is going to work and worm up the lower leg muscles as part of the treatment.

Client lies down on their back on massage couch with their head supported on the pillow to ensure the most comfort and relaxation is achieved. Client’s feet will be sanitised before proceeding.

Treatment starts with worming strokes performed on the lower leg, ankle and foot and passive movements of ankle and foot joints to increase joint mobility and flexibility, to allow the body regain its full range of movements, release pain, stiffness and tension. The thumb and finger pressure is applied to the sole of the foot, one at the time.

When there is sensitivity, the reflex area corresponds to the problem within the body part, organ or gland; a deeper altering pressure will be applied. A stimulating effect will occur to promote your body to heal itself and the sensitivity in the reflex area on foot will reduce.
